Slowing Down and Savoring April

We have a true bumper crop of rhubarb this year - with leaves that are close to two-feet wide. I made my first rhubarb crisp of the season. Promptly topped with whipped cream.

The last of our Rembrandt Tulips.

The blue sign reads:
"Today is the day of Salvation."

We drove by this log cabin as Willa and I went for a visit to Shady Lane Greenhouses yesterday. We found salvation in a flat of 'maters, herbs, a heliotrope, marigolds, lobelia, coleus and a pot of black-eyed susan vine. Hallelujah!

I liked your pics - a nice mixture. My rhubard is ready for picking so I planning to make something similar this weekend.

I need you to tell me the secret of growing rhubarb. In Sweden they grew big as bushes wherever we lived, and I love rhubarb crisp, but I have tried at least three times to make them happy in my Charlottesville garden (I am actually working on my forth set and it is not looking promising...) They either don't' grow at all from the beginning or they do well the first year never to return again.. Advice??

I'm so glad you all enjoyed the photos - it was such a lovely day.

Lotta - I think it has been luck for me. It is a little cooler out here in the Hollow. But I have it in full sun, all day. I fed the bed they are planted in with compost.

I also ordered a variety from Heirloom Acres Seeds. Crimson Rhubarb. They are out of Missouri - so maybe this is a variety that does better in the warmer parts of the US?
