What is Your New Favorite Plant Find of This Season?

Mine is Lemon Verbena.

Now, I'd love to hear from all of you - especially because I know you-s guy-s will ultimately introduce me to my new favorite plant for next season. That is how it works, you see!

Anythin'. Herbs, annuals, perennials, veggies, fruit, native plants. Favorite new color or variety of a certain plant? It doesn't need to be anything off the charts. In fact, I especially appreciate being reminded of something I may have started to overlook.

P.S. My favorite plant will change several more times over the next few months. Depending on what I accidentally kill, what loves me back and the fair-weathered-ness of my gardening loyalty.

I bought a lemon verbena for the first time this spring after I saw one grown as a tree in the garden of Austin plantswoman and garden designer Jill Nokes. It must have been 12 or 15 feet tall and she said that, when it blooms, it smells like "the best shampoo ever." I'm waiting for that and, meanwhile, I'm just enjoying rubbing the leaves every time I walk past.

Oh and I'd have to say that my favorite new plant this year (so far, anyway) is agave parryii. I've got other agaves but I've been wanting a Parry's agave for awhile and now that I have it, I have to stand and admire it several times a day.

Fantastic, Susan! They can get to 15'?! (She says, knees shaking). Wow.
I'm off to see what an agave parryii looks like . . . :)

This week it's two:
Philadelphus Lewisii 'Blizzard' (Wild Mock Orange) and Romneya coulteri (Matilija poppy).
Just remembered another plant I saw in a nursery on Saturday. I was floored by the way it looks and the heavenly scent. It was called Rhododendron 'Patricia Marie' - pairs of huge bell-shaped white flowers with the most amazing scent.

My favorite plant of this season hasn't come up yet, but I planted it last week. It is Alabama Red Okra. I love planting different colored vegetables. I'm also growing white eggplants for the first time.

Such neat stuff! Funny, Mock Orange *just* came up on my radar, as a sweet lady was selling plants at the market and I was drawn to them . . .
I didn't know that an agave is a just a huge version of my favorite succulent. Yowsa . . .
Katie - I just had okra for the first time - pickled! Do you think you will do that with some of yours?

I am loving my big blue hostas right now (no idea what the name is...)

Ooo-oo-ooo! Blue hostas. Love 'em too, Steph.

I make pickled okra every year. I don't know if red okra turns green when blanched, so it will be interesting to see what red okra looks like once pickled!?

We have planted Alabama Red okra in a real poor soil area in the garden and they have thrived. I think it is a beautiful plant. I would grow it as an ornamental in the flower bed.
