Willa's Tree. Thoughts? Vote!
Okay . . . after some midnight feeding tree-book readings, I have narrowed it down a bit. Trees that could be flowering around Willa's birthday . . . late winter/early spring bloomers. In shades of pink and white. Because, how could they not be pink or white? Submit your vote - on the right!
Callaway crabapple (Malus 'Callaway')
Saucer magnolia (Magnolia X Soulangiana - photo above)
Okame Cherry (Prunus incisa x campanulata 'Okame')
Japanese Flowering Apricot (Prunus Mume)

All lovely choices but the Callaway crabapple has been on my wish list for awhile now so it gets my vote.
Hi Tracey, congratulations on the birth of your daughter! You must be thrilled! I was waiting to find out and checked your blog often! Happy Spring!
I'd say a fruit tree. Not only would it flower around her birthday, but she'd "own" all the sweet fruit.
I have to say the crabapple does it for me ! .. good luck with those wee hour feedings !
Joy : )
They will all be beautiful. I agree with nancy, though: beautiful flowers and fruit would be awesome. And I personally thing the cherry is the most beautiful. Flowers, fruits, and beautiful raining wonderland of petals. Wow.
That is, I think the cherry would be most beautiful... gotta hit the preview button...
Have fun deciding!
Congratulations! I think I like the magnolia best.
Oh, the Apricot for sure! It reminds me of the flowering almond shrub that blooms a bit later in the spring. And just think of her "apricot-blushed cheeks" as she grows up! In fact, I may just have to plant one of those for myself!
i love both the magnolia and the cherry. what a wonderful idea.
As a lover of lots of things Japanese, I could only vote for the apricot. Of course, I also thought it was the prettiest. And I love Anonymous's comments about apricot cheeks. Very fitting.
Awww - Congratulations on your Spring Bundle of Joy. The tree idea is precious -- I'm sure they would all be lovely, but I think I'd go for the cherry tree. She could also eat cherries of the tree while she's growing up. Traditions are the thread of our lives.
I am a sucker for magnolias.
Congrats on the new member of the family! There sure seem to be alot of girls born around here lately!
Not much opinion on the trees. They all seem very nice. I suppose I'd go for the Crabapple for it's additional wildlife value.
My vote would be the saucer magnolia. Their beauty just takes my breath away every Spring. Perhaps like a certain little someone did with you and your husband this year? They almost seem like a tree from a fairy tale.
Yeah a baby girl!
I think all those trees are great and the idea is excellent. My pick would be the one that is closest to the actual birthday. If it had fruits that would be a big plus to make pies later in the year.
