Field Trip: Cape May

From the top: The gardens around our house - asters, sedum, hydrangeas; Cape May fencing; a hidden garden; Mom and Willa (tucked away in the stroller/Pope Mobile) among the cottage garden flowers; porch living; and the Painted Ladies.

*****
Willa learned how to open and close her fist in a wave while we were all in Cape May. While saying good night to her two uncles, her aunt and her grandparents - she stared at her hand and returned the gesture each of them animatedly gave her. Simply mirroring the smiles and encouragement that she saw in each of their faces.

My heart ached as each family member packed up and left our cozy place - our home for a full week. With Corey, Willa and I being the last to leave - the quiet of the house followed me as I flitted from final chore to final chore. Desperately missing everyone already.

As we readied ourselves to get in the car and make our own exit, Willa quietly looked around. Looking for those faces and those smiles, I imagine. And gave one more, perfectly executed, parting g'bye, big girl, unprompted . . . wave of her own.

Thanks so much for these photos. You did exactly what I love to do: walk through neighborhoods and look at the gardens. Such a sweet, wondrous story about Willa. Thanks for sharing that, too.
