July In The Garden

Our small wildflower patch is returning with its cheery cosmos.

Wild Queen Anne's Lace.

Dill flowers.

Double pink echinacea.

We are having a very, very mild July. So much so, that I did something I wouldn't dream of doing in previous years. I transplanted new perennials - Russian Sage, some deep purple speedwell and a double pink echinacea (photo above). In July. Yup. I'm playing with fire, I know. I do need to water them A LOT. But they were on sale and they were calling to me and blah, blah, blah {insert additional ridiculous points of validation here}.

I have been spending the bulk of my gardening time weeding, mulching and feeding. Hoping to steel my new additions for their first Charlottesville August. Where we all wilt and beg for mercy in the face of an unforgiving god of heat and humidity.

I love that double pink Echinacea. I have one plant and hope to divide it one day. The photo of the little one holding the dill is priceless. Enjoy your cool July.~~Dee

This cool July is odd but nice. I mean mid 80's instead of upper 90's. I like it! Now you've reminded me to go scour some of the local garden centers for some more discounted plants. Thanks!

I keep hearing that some varieties of Echinacea are fragrant. Can anyone confirm or deny that? (I've got a thing for fragrant plants...)
