Daydreaming : Children's Garden Cottage

Willa is going to have something I always wanted as a child - a play cottage. Squeal! I hope she invites me over for tea!

The builders will be Corey and his father. And I will help in the design. These photos are from Gold Coast estates that I like to visit when we visit Gramma and Grampa up in New York. Where estate owners had unlimited access to funds and skilled labor. They were children's cottages for the super rich.

The builders, I fear, will be maddened by the wishes of the designer. Yet, when I lobbed out the idea of a thatched roof, Corey didn't balk. Not a terribly strategic move on his part, as this encouraged me further into more irrational ideas and shooting for the moon. I want it to look like a gnome could walk out of the cottage at any moment.

Of course, landscaping on a wee scale also does the trick. I already can't wait to grow things around this structure. Window boxes will be a must, as will a trellis and morning glories. You know, more enticements for the fairies and the gnomes - and our own little woodland imp.

This makes me smile as my grandparents neighbor had a little house like this that even had running water. I had my own key as a child as his grandchildren lived far away. I think when my grandparents split up I was more upset about the lose of "my" house. Thanks for the pleasant memory. :)

CUTE! I wanted Edie to have something like that. We have the tiki hut, which has it's own magic (and is still in some need of landscaping) and was hand built by daddy. I wasn't allowed input on the design....but the designer did a pretty awesome job I have to admit.

Wow, Tracey! They are awesome! My dad built my brother and I a treehouse when we were young... it was amazing, we ran a restaurant from it - specialising in flower soup and mud cakes.

Willa will be in her element!

Awesome! I am drooling over garden sheds I can plant around and dress up like a little cottage. There is just something magical and fascinating about little structures! Have fun.
